1. Choosing a roofing material

An important part of building a new home or roof renovation is choosing the right roofing material. Ask yourself which qualities you want from your roof; durability, easy maintenance, modern or more traditional looks? Consider your budget in the light of the qualities you want from your roof and consult professional roofers for the structural issues related to choosing roof material.

2. Choosing the look and colour of your steel roof

3. Calculating an estimate for the roofing project and requesting an offer with detailed prices

Are you building a new house?

You can influence the choice of roofing materials, accessories, rainwater systems and roof safety products.

Check with your contractor whether the lead-ins, rainwater systems, roof safety products and final cleaning are included in the offer before signing the contract between you and the contractor.

Are you renovating an existing roof?

It is your decision whether you purchase the roofing materials and installation from one party or you buy materials from a dealer and contract an installer yourself. Ruukki recommends dealers on our site, but please check for an installation service with the dealer.

Your local dealer and the installation contractor will provide you with instructions on how to proceed after an offer has been accepted.

Please note that you can place your order months in advance and choose a delivery date that suits your own schedule. The ordered products will be delivered to the address you give on the agreed date.

After placing your order, material production takes a minimum of two weeks, depending on the chosen material and Ruukki’s storage.

Delivery of the materials to the construction site also takes about two weeks.

Before your delivery arrives, please ensure there is enough space (minimum 8 m x 1,5m) at the site where the materials can be stored in one place. This will ensure that they remain in good condition and the installers can find them easily. Consult your local dealer and installation contractor if you are not sure how much space is needed.

In normal conditions, the roofing sheet stacks can be stored either packaged or unwrapped for about one month. For longer storage periods, the stacks must be protected and placed on a slightly sloped surface to allow any water between them to evaporate or drain off.

Note that some Ruukki products, such as the Finnera steel roof, rainwater systems, roof safety products and accessories, can be found directly from dealers’ warehouses.

The roof installation time depends on the condition of the roof understructure, the roof size and its shape, the number of chimneys, roof windows and the number of accessories. Typically, a steel roof installation takes from one to two weeks.

A roofing installation typically includes:

• Demolition/removal of the old roof (concerns only renovation)
• Understructure repair and/or installation of new understructures (concerns only renovation)
• Installation of roofing sheets, flashings, fillers and lead-ins such as chimneys and roof windows 
• Installation of rainwater systems and roof safety products such as ladders, snow guards and roof bridges
• Final cleaning
